I am a four-time Olympian, World Championship and Commonwealth Games medallist and I hold many, local, state national and international records. My presence on the international athletics scene altered the culture of modern long-distance running, as I beat the odds with success against the dominant African nations, paving the way for others to do the same. In 2012, I shifted my attention to coaching, more specifically assisting athletes through the provision of tailored coaching, training and wellbeing plans that aim to educate, empower and encourage all to be well and be elite. Through my experiences I have learned many valuable lessons, none more so than our main principle at Elitewellbeing, ‘Train your body, Train your mind’, which underpins everything I do in my efforts to see you achieve.
You are purchasing an interactive online training plan, custom designed for the The Great Australian Cross Country Challenge. Your plan is created by me (Craig Mottram) and is delivered through the online app, Training Peaks. This platform allows for the training plan to be delivered, tracked and checked via your smart phone, watch or tracking device, allowing me (your coach) the ability to track your progress every step along the way. You can choose to engage as much or as little as you like with the online monitoring of your training.
Upon purchasing your plan, you will be contacted by me via email outlining the simple steps involved in setting up your own private and free Training Peaks account. Once your account is set up your training plan will be uploaded into your calendar within 48hrs.
Please note: you are not purchasing a standard PDF document. You are receiving access to an online app in which your training plan will be made visible and monitoring of this plan is a featured element. Due to this, your 6 week plan will start on the Monday post purchasing your plan and will run for 6 weeks. The Great Australian Cross Country Challenge is being conducted with no specific event start date, hence maximising the benefit of this 6 week plan relies on you scheduling your event date in sync with the completion of the plan.
This 6-week training plan is aimed at best preparing you for a 3-5km cross country event and is best suited for less experienced runners as the plan ensures your body becomes gently accustomed to the training. We start you out on a walk-run plan then build your body’s resilience with a series of aerobic continuous runs with exposure to mixed surfaces before introducing you to some race specific sessions. This plan adopts a dynamic and accumulative approach to your training that will build your confidence to successfully enjoy your cross country experience.
This 6-week plan is built for those wanting to push their current fitness and progress their running skill in 6-weeks of solid training geared towards 3-5km cross country events. The plan adopts some of the features and training sessions from my own elite level training when preparing for my major international competitions, a big focus of this plan will be threshold and race specific sessions including some track sessions, combined with aerobic runs to condition your body’s stamina. This plan also includes strategic guidance around enhancing running technique and efficiency as well as a good race day mindset to take on The Great Australian Cross Country Challenge.
Your plan is delivered via the online training app, Training Peaks. You will be notified via email by Craig Mottram and provided instructions on how to set up your free Training Peaks account. Once you have set up your Training Peaks account your training plan will be uploaded into the calendar section of Training Peaks within 48hrs.
If you have an existing Training Peaks account you can link this by selecting ‘log in’ and adding coach Craig Mottram to your existing account. If you do not have an existing Training Peaks account, you simply click ‘sign up’ and follow the set-up instructions.
Syncing your device is easiest done when first setting up your Training Peaks account. You will be prompted during set up to ‘Link a Device’ to your account. Click ‘yes’ and follow the set-up instructions displayed.
Your training will be made available in the Calendar window within 48hrs of setting up your Training Peaks account. The Calendar window is found on the top toolbar of your Training Peaks account.
No, you will automatically be put on a Premium account for a trial period and then revert back to a Basic account automatically when this period ends. You do not need to do anything, and you will not be charged. Your plan purchase includes your Training Peaks account for the duration of your Training Plan coached by Craig Mottram
It is strongly recommended that the training structure remain as presented to provide the best adaptation and minimise risk of soreness.
If you miss a day of training for any reason you can simply pick things up again on the day you return to training. Do not try to redo the training you missed.
No, the plan is structured across a set period of time to best prepare you for the Great Australian Cross Country Challenge. Things, like rest days, overall volume and intensity have all been factored into the plan. For best results, stick to the plan as it is written.
